Sudan protests turn deadly

Six protesters die after security services suppress a sit-in outside the Military HQ

Protests in Sudan turned bloody last night, as six people are believed to have been killed after security services suppressed a sit-in taking place outside the Military headquarters. More have been injured. General Abdel Fattah Burhan head of the military council has condemned the violence.

Somalia Ministry of Education cancels ongoing secondary education exams and postpones them till the end of May. Thousands of students are affected. The decision is in response to a leak of test papers on social media. We hear from angry students who feel they are been penalised.

A Christian group convened in Nigeria's capital Abuja today to commemorate the 16th birthday of Leah Sharibu, the schoolgirl still held captive by Boko Haram militants for refusing to convert to Islam. Professor Funmi Davis Adesanya travelled all the way from London to join the demonstrations. She said she is passionate about fighting for the release of Leah, particularly because they share the same birthday.
