
President Mugabe Is Said To Be Refusing To Step Down

South Africa has been leading mediation efforts with President Mugabe and army generals. Mr Mugabe, who is under house arrest, is said to be refusing to step down. His long-time rival, the opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai, has urged him to resign immediately. A former vice-president, Joice Mujuru, has called for free, fair and credible elections.
