On the Shoulders of Aunties and Uncles

Composer Segun Akinola’s tribute to those who came before him. It’s a celebration of the artists and genres that Segun listened to growing up, brought into the concert hall.

Gospel, garage, drum and bass - you’ll hear rhythms and syncopation embedded in the music, recorded in Cardiff by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Search ‘In Tune’ to hear Segun introduce this new commission, and discover the Classical Mixtape he curated, on BBC Sounds now.

Part of the BBC’s partnership with The Music Is Black: A British Story is a landmark exhibition at V&A East Museum, documenting 125 years of Black music-making in Britain.
