A new plan for Stoke-on-Trent's city centre

Staffordshire regeneration expert Paul Williams reacts to the proposed plans for Hanley. An independent corporation could be launched to oversee a major redevelopment in the centre of Stoke-on-Trent, which includes proposals for a new bus system, leisure centre and hundreds more homes. Stoke-on-Trent City council cabinet members were set to approve the final 'City Centre Masterplan' at a meeting on 6 October 2026. The cabinet were also asked to agree in principle to create an urban development corporation (UDC) to take the scheme forward, which is an independent public body with the power to acquire and develop land. The BBC's Susan Hanks spoke to Paul Williams about the proposals.
