Mango Madness In West Yorkshire!

It is peak season for imports of prized mango varieties from the Indian subcontinent, with Pakistan’s season in full flow until September, and across Bradford and Leeds, the evidence is piled high...you might have even seen a few vans parked up and selling cratefuls of mangoes from the roadside!

The UK trade in mangoes, guavas and mangosteens is worth about £220 million a year, with India and Pakistan accounting for a fifth of that import value.

That brings a big summer boost for many Yorkshire businesses too, with tills jingling and boxes flying off the shelves. But for the region’s large South Asian communities, mangoes also offer a taste of family memories and a deep heritage connection.
