The shops at the centre of London Punk in the 70s
Acme Attractions and BOY in Chelsea were centres of 'anti-fashion’ in the early 1970s.
In 1974, Acme Attractions opened as a stall in the antiques market Antiquarius on the King's Road, Chelsea.
Its public face was Don Letts who says that Acme was selling "electric-blue zoot suits and jukeboxes, and pumping dub reggae all day long". A few years later the Acme was closed and BOY opened up. These places were centres of Punk and ‘anti-fashion’ with a far reaching impact on London and beyond.
Their impact has been explored in a new book by fashion designer Phil Strongman. BBC Radio London's Robert Elms has been speaking to him.
