Petition to save St Matthews Community Centre
A petition to save St Matthews Community Centre has reached more than 1000 signatures.
Leicester City Council says that the centre is 'not sustainable or safe in the medium to longer term future due to the poor condition of the building' and proposes to relocate some of its services elsewhere on the estate.
But users say the centre has a 'transformative impact' and encourages investment in the community.
BBC Leicester's Emma Caldwell spoke to Zainab Abdi, who started the petition, and also a local volunteer, Isra Said.
But first, BBC Leicester’s Kevin N’Cube spoke to people on the St Matthews estate about the proposed closure.
