‘I was given four hours to live’.
Paralympic Swimmer Lyndon Longhorne spoke to 5 Live’s Chris Warburton about how contracting meningitis at eight months old impacted his life.
“It caused me to lose both my legs, my right arm and fingertips on my left hand. So that’s left me with a long lasting disability but I deal with it every day.”
The NHS is urging students and young people to get vaccinated against the disease as cases are expected to surge following the start of the academic year.
When speaking about his campaign work as a Youth Ambassador for the charity ‘Meningitis Now’, Lyndon said: “If you can keep an eye on them symptoms, it could even be one or two, that could help save a life”.
