‘Heavy period isn’t normal’

Zaynah, who is 18, explains how extreme period pain has been affecting her life. She was diagnosed with endometriosis & adenomyosis last year.

The charity ‘Wellbeing of Women’ has found that around one in five girls aged 12 and 18 experienced symptoms that left them bed-bound and unable to live normal lives because of the debilitating pain they got during their periods.

Speaking to 5 Live’s Naga Munchetty, Zaynah said: “I felt like the only person I should have been speaking to was my mum until it started to affect everything, my grades, my friendships.”

“The only person you should be relying on shouldn’t be your mum. You should be able to go a teacher, a doctor, a friend, anybody.”
