What's causing the Stanway 'stink' ?

Residents in Stanway near Colchester have been complaining of an unbearable smell from a nearby landfill site. Gary has lived in the north Essex village for just over two years, and says he first noticed the smell last summer.

Enovert which runs the Bellhouse tip off Warren Lane in Stanway says "a recent increase in complaints of odour coincided with work to sort out a slip in the rubbish". The Environment Agency says "a large crevice opened up earlier this month, and the situation should improve significantly once its been filled.
Enovert says work in the area has been completed.
