Virtual reality used in rehabilitation
A multi-sensory virtual reality system, known as the CAREN (Computer Assisted Rehabilitation Environment), is being used to help treat people.
The system is able to assist with such things as balance, walking and cognition. The CAREN also enables multi-tasking which can help people with dementia or Parkinson's disease and those who have had strokes.
Emma Jane Kirby has met patients learning how to ski and sail in hospital using the virtual system.
