'Step back in time' at the Framework Knitters Museum
Framework knitting was the first major stage in the mechanisation of the textile industry, with the invention of the stocking frame in 1589.
The Framework Knitters Museum in Wigston, Leicestershire comprises of the late 17th century Master Framework Knitters House and Workshop, used from 1764 until it closed in 1948/9.
When the last master hosier died in 1952 the workshop was locked and left, providing current visitors with the feeling of stepping back in time.
Listener Ann Flood nominated this little gem and takes us on a tour of this small museum as part of our series.
