The man who is crossing Antarctica unaided

Polar explorer Henry Worsley is setting off in November in an attempt to become the first person to cross Antarctica unaided.

With no air-dropped food, nothing but skis for transport and no-one for company, he will travel 1,100 miles carrying food for 80 days.

Talking to Today presenter John Humphrys he said he expected to lose two stone during the journey and that if he did not call into the logistics base for 48 hours, a rescue team would be sent to try and find him.

“There’s no black art to sliding one ski in front of the other,” he said.
