David Dimbleby: "The most fascinating election that I'll have done"
Eddie Mair spoke to David Dimbleby ahead of tonight's televised BBC Debate.
Mr Dimbleby said that although previous elections with Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair were exciting, they were also "predictable".
He added that the televised debates have allowed voters, who have been "jaundiced" by policies and promises, to get a closer look at the party Leaders.
"What does come through is the character of the politicians involved" he said.
"Quite clearly people have been surprised to see the Nicola Sturgeon they've seen. People have taken to Leanne Wood, who they didn't really know".
When played the old BBC Election Night theme tune, he said “I love it. It sends a shiver down my spine.”
