Vine in 1914: The First Battle Of Ypres
The First Battle of Ypres lasted for a month, spanning October and November 1914.
Fighting continued in this region until the autumn of 1918, with this small Belgian city witnessing somewhere approaching half a million casualties.
Despite being heavily outnumbered, the Allies held the region, but the city was almost totally destroyed during those four years.
