PM listeners' sounds: Solar wind
This sound, broadcast at a time when the country was experiencing some rather extreme weather conditions, was sent by listener Dr Stuart Green. He explained: "This is the sound of the solar wind interacting with Earth's magnetic field. It's a recording I made using my magnetometers at home in Preston in Lancashire. Of course, the sounds aren't recorded directly, as the solar wind is silent to our ears, but are instead created from the actual measured fluctuations in our magnetic field and converted into sound using special software."
