Meet Charlie, the teenager who gave up his birthday money for nine years to raise thousands for charity
When Charlie Doherty saw the effects of the tsunami on Indonesia in 2004 he decided he wanted to forgoe presents for his fifth birthday and ask his friends and family to donate money instead.
Nine years on, Charlie still receives money in lieu of presents each year and has raised a staggering £35,000 for charity.
He now sponsors Ipyana Primary School in Malawi, via the charity Mary's Meals - where 1,429 children will receive a daily meal for a whole year thanks to his efforts.
