Witchcraft and exorcism with Jeanette Winterson
Author Jeanette Winterson speaks to Front Row’s Mark Lawson about her new novella The Daylight Gate which re-imagines the famous Pendle Witch trials of 1612. Winterson was inspired by growing up in the shadow of Pendle hill in Lancashire, where the Pendle witches are said to have lived. She talks about her affection for the area and how her first-hand experience of being exorcised by the church connects her to the ostracised women in the novel.
