Episode 5

Jools welcomes Jamie T, Antony Szmierek, Violet Grohl, Emily Bear, Tia Gordon and Leo Sayer to the show.

Jools welcomes Jamie T, the Wimbledon-born singer-songwriter who
returns to the show to perform a couple of tracks from his number one album Ghosts (100 Days of Morning), created using voice memos spanning his career and exploring 'growing up, love, loss and reclaiming his identity'. Jools also chats to Jamie at the piano.

From Hyde in Greater Manchester, Antony Szmierek performs The Heron and Chalk, from his second album, Decoding Birdsong, made with long-time creative partner and producer Max Rad, which draws on Antony’s love of electronic music and explores themes of luck and loneliness.

Making her Later… debut from Los Angeles, Violet Grohl performs 595, taken from her debut album Be Sweet to Me, inspired by 90s throwback sounds and artists like The Breeders and PJ Harvey. Violet is amidst a world tour whilst also supporting beabadoobee.

Also making her Later… debut is singer, pianist and composer from Rockford, Illinois, Emily Bear, who performs her single God Forbid a Girl Gets Used to This, taken from her first solo album in eight years. A musical prodigy who made her professional debut at the age of five, Emily became the youngest recipient of the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre at the age of 20. Jools and Emily also perform a piano duet together of their rendition of Freddy Martin and Jack Fina’s Bumble Boogie.

From Kent, rising star Tia Gordon performs her single Feel, exploring 'friendship, uncertainty, loss and letting go when a relationship changes', having just supported Sam Smith at their residency at the Coliseum and is preparing to embark on her first headline UK and European tour.

Completing the line-up is the legendary singer-songwriter Leo Sayer, who chats to Jools about his hugely successful career spanning more than five decades, having sold more than 80 million records worldwide, and who has just released Leothology: The Studio Albums 1973 – Now, an extensive 18-CD collection bringing together 220 songs from his 16 studio albums alongside previously unreleased material. Jools also joins Leo for a performance of his classic 1977 hit When I Need You.
