3pm Building a Library: Pianist and composer Yshani Perinpanayagam joins Andrew to survey recordings of Ravel's Miroirs and make a top recommendation.

Maurice Ravel's Miroirs marked a step forward in his musical language. Written in 1905 and dedicated to members of his artistic circle, "Les Apaches", its five richly coloured movements conjure the nocturnal world of owl-moths, melancholy birdsong in the torpor of a dense summer forest, ocean swells, a Spanish jester's dawn serenade and the tolling of midday bells in Paris. Together, they form one of the most imaginative and evocative works in the piano repertoire
