Adam’s Young Farmers: Yorkshire Dales
Adam Henson travels to the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park to meet 34-year-old cattle and sheep farmer Frank Carr, whose plan is to produce high-quality beef and sell it at a premium.
Adam Henson visits young farmers navigating the challenges and rewards of producing our food. This week, he’s near Malham in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park meeting 34-year-old cattle and sheep farmer Frank Carr.
Whilst checking on the newly born lambs, Frank explains to Adam that the landscape is as unforgiving as it is beautiful, and its unpredictable conditions can have a significant impact on his flock, especially during the winter months. Adam hears how since going into partnership with his dad, Frank has significantly expanded the cattle herd and taken on a large amount of debt. For the business to work, Frank’s plan is to produce high-quality beef and sell it at a premium.
Adam also looks back through the Countryfile archives, revisiting some of the inspirational farmers we have met from across the UK
