Episode 6

Jools welcomes queen of country pop Shania Twain, global star Sam Smith, poet and songwriter Arlo Parks, Quebec duo Angine de Poitrine and Geordie jazz band Knats.

Jools welcomes, for the first time on the show, the international legend and five-time Grammy-winning Shania Twain. The queen of country pop chats to Jools at the piano about her album Little Miss Twain, and together they perform a unique version of her UK top ten hit from 1997 You’re Still the One.

Jools welcomes the multi-platinum, Grammy, BRIT, Golden Globe and Oscar-winning artist Sam Smith for a UK television exclusive performance following an intimate live series of residencies in Brooklyn and San Francisco. Jools also chats to Sam about their new music and making the move to New York.

Making a welcome return to the show is London poet, singer-songwriter and Mercury Prize winner Arlo Parks, who performs a couple of songs from her third album Ambiguous Desire, a 12-track collection of her 'most vulnerable, self-affirming and euphoric music to date'.

From Quebec in Canada, the much-talked-about microtonal cardboard duo Angine de Poitrine perform two tracks from their high-voltage album Vol. II. The prog rock duo, known for their polka-dot laden costumes and musical stylings of 'pulsing drum grooves and intricate tangles of double- necked guitar', have been known to make 'hearts race and bodies move with ecstatic abandon'.

From Newcastle, the trailblazing jazz quintet Knats perform a track from their debut album A Great Day in Newcastle, a genre coined as ‘Geordie jazz’, featuring spoken word passages and chronicling the 'milieu of the north east’s working-class experience - the trials and tribulations, community, and culture'.
