with Sakari Oramo

Conductor Sakari Oramo opens a window into the art of attentive listening. Today, Sakari explores the act of listening itself - what do we actually hear when we listen to music?

Ahead of this year's BBC Proms, Sakari Oramo, chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra opens a window into the art - and the joy - of attentive listening. Today, Sakari explores the act of listening itself - what are we doing when we listen to music and what do we actually hear?

He'll also explore how our preconceptions about a piece of music or a composer might influence our listening experience, how different interpretations of the same piece can unlock new ways of listening, and gives his own opinion on how we should prepare ourselves to listen to music we have never heard before.
