Episode 1
Natalie goes back to the classroom, inspired by caring for her dad. Nerves hit on day one, but her first on-the-job work placement has a real impact.
Natalie Cassidy has left the Square and is starting over. New place. New role. After caring for her dad Charlie at the end of his life, Nat can’t forget Linda, the woman who helped them through it. Nat calls her ‘her angel’, and now she wants to understand what it takes to do that job – properly. So, she’s going to college to do a Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
It’s a big leap. She has left behind everything she knows as an actor. Day one comes with nerves, doubt… and a classroom where she’s the oldest by far. But one student’s life experience blows her away. Tilly has been a young carer for her mum since she was six.
From baby development to the realities of childhood Type 1 diabetes, Nat is thrown into a world that’s both fascinating and full-on. Then comes her first placement. At Princess Alexandra Hospital, she shadows nurse Phoebe at a children’s diabetes clinic, where she meets Jaxon and his mum Carly and gets a close-up look at what living with the condition means day to day. It’s eye-opening and emotional, and really hits home for her as a mum.
Surprised by just how much she’s enjoying the experience so far, Natalie’s first steps into care have lit a spark, one that feels like the start of a new chapter.
