An Arts Mix Special: Pitlochry Festival Theatre at 75

Artistic director and actor Alan Cumming chats about Pitlochry Festival Theatre's 75 years. Director John Tiffany discusses the forthcoming production of the musical Once.

Today's programme is dedicated to Pitlochry Festival Theatre, which is marking its 75th anniversary - on Tuesday to be precise! It’s set on the banks of the River Tummel and started life as a collection of tents in the hills. Rooted in its Perthshire community, it’s a valued member of a select group of theatres which still create shows in-house, and its birthday coincides with the inaugural season shaped by its new artistic director, the award-winning actor of stage and screen, producer and director Alan Cumming.
Also in today’s programme, presenter Len Pennie talks to John Tiffany, the director of the production kicking off the inaugural season, the award-winning original Broadway musical Once, and finds out more about the history of this unique theatre from Colin Liddell, honorary president and former chair of the theatre as well as a local historian. His new book is called Scotland's Theatre in the Hills: 75 Years of Pitlochry Festival Theatre.
