Stuart Maconie sits in. Jalen Ngonda takes control of the Trunk of Funk this week. Over the last few years he’s gone from cult favourite to one of the standout new voices in modern soul. After studying at LIPA in Liverpool and busking his way around London, he found a home at Daptone Records and hasn’t looked back. This week he opens up the Trunk of Funk and takes us through some of the records that helped shape the sound.

Produced in Salford by Audio Always for BBC Radio 6 Music.
