Llandudno

Episode 4 of 12

In Llandudno, Anne and Lenka race to turn charity shop bargains into profit, taking bold risks on furniture, jewellery and creative upcycles – all for charity.

Joanna Page heads to the north Wales coast as the show arrives in Llandudno, a Victorian seaside town packed with charity shops and hidden potential. With iconic architecture, a bustling high street and 15 charity shops within walking distance, it’s the perfect hunting ground for a high-stakes thrifting challenge.

The competitors are Anne and Lenka, who are raising money for Cancer Research Wales, a cause close to their hearts. Armed with £100 each to spend and just 60 minutes on the clock, they’re paired with expert thrifters Terry and Tom and sent racing across town to find bargain buys that can be transformed into profit.

Anne heads straight to Llandudno’s dedicated charity furniture shop, where she uncovers a pair of overlooked art deco-style display cabinets, both priced at an astonishing £5 each. With an eye for glassware and silver, she continues snapping up vintage ceramics, cut glass and a hallmarked Chester silver napkin ring, quietly building a strong and varied collection while barely denting her budget.

Meanwhile, Lenka takes a riskier route. Drawn to jewellery and collectibles, she spends nearly half her budget early on a striking blue topaz pendant, before branching out into nostalgic toys and an inventive upcycling plan involving vintage sheet music. With time running out, she commits to a £5 console table, hoping a creative transformation will pay off.

Joanna also reveals her own pick of the day: a quirky 1950s Spong meat mincer, but neither team snaps it up, and a local shopper beats them to it.

Next comes the transformation stage. Anne’s £5 cabinet is dramatically restored by specialist furniture makers, while Lenka’s console table is reinvented using decoupage and bold colour to incorporate the vintage sheet music into its design.

The episode culminates in a tense live-streamed auction, where Anne and Lenka must become auctioneers, pitching their items to an online audience. Anne impresses with confident selling and clever storytelling, while Lenka’s early gamble on the pendant pays off handsomely. As bids fly in, profits climb, and the competition tightens.

When the auction results are combined with the pair's online sales, the final totals reveal a nail-biting finish. But while one contestant edges ahead, the real victory belongs to charity, with a substantial donation raised for Cancer Research Wales.

Packed with big risks, creative reinventions and seaside charm, this warm and engaging episode proves that second-hand shopping can make a very real difference.
