Session highlights from Emma Rawicz

Tonight’s Friday night special features live session highlights from jazz saxophonist and composer Emma Rawicz.

‘Round Midnight is presented by award-winning saxophonist Soweto Kinch. This weekday late-night show celebrates the thriving UK jazz scene and spotlights the best new music alongside incredible acts from past decades.

This Friday night, Soweto presents live highlights from rising saxophonist Emma Rawicz, taken from two sessions at BBC Maida Vale with Emma’s quintet and quartet respectively. The sessions were recorded as part of the BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Scheme, which supports emerging artists to reach the next stages of their career. Emma is part of the scheme’s 2024-2026 cohort, following in the footsteps of jazz musicians who have been previously selected, including Laura Jurd, Fergus McCreadie, and Shabaka.

As well as winning “Best Newcomer” at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards and being a finalist for BBC Young Jazz Musician in 2022, she has already released four studio albums. Her latest record titled “INKYRA” arriving at the end of last year.
