Living with endometriosis

Endometriosis is thought to affect one in ten women in the UK. It’s a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows in other parts of the body, often causing severe pain, heavy periods and fertility issues.

Amber Haque speaks to two women living with the condition about how it affects their everyday lives, from managing symptoms to balancing work commitments. Neelam Heera-Shergill launched the charity Cysters, to supports marginalised women with conditions like endometriosis, after being diagnosed herself. Meanwhile, Sanju Pal lost her job after taking time off to recover from surgery for the condition. Her former employer says she was dismissed because of poor performance, but Sanju is now involved in an ongoing employment tribunal, arguing she was discriminated against because of a disability.
