Matt MacIsaac at Piping Live
Gary West introduces a live set from Cape Breton maestro, Matt MacIsaac.
Gary West brings you a fast-fingered set from Matt MacIsaac, recorded at Piping Live in Glasgow in August. Matt grew up in Cape Breton Island in Canada, part of a highly skilled musical family with roots in the highlands of Scotland, and his music is deeply influenced by the step dance traditions of his native island. We also hear one of the most evocative and emotive pieces of music in the entire highland piping canon, Lament for the Children, performed by Jamie Forrester in the gold medal contest at the Northern Meeting in Inverness in early September. There’s sets too from the Inveraray and District Pipe Band, from the Scott Wood Trio, and from Lewisman, James Duncan MacKenzie.
