Fifers to the Fore
High end bagpipe music brought to you by Gary West, including a focus on the music of Fife, and a treat from two maestros of the Breton piping tradition of France.
The Kingdom of Fife, for long a key hub of pipe music, is in the musical spotlight this week as Gary West brings you sets from Pipe Majors Brian Donaldson and Brian Lamond, as well as the classic retro sound of the Dysart and Dundonald Pipe Band from four decades ago. The Black Bottle Pipe Band provide their innovative brand of music from the early 1990s, there's contemporary upbeat contributions from uillean piper Calum Stewart and the Angus Nicholson Trio, and the richly layered sound of the bagpipe and bombard combination of Brittany is provided by two maestros of the artform, the Mahevas brothers.
