This week, Hayley Campbell and Scott Bryan join Naga Munchetty to review ‘Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen’, ‘The Burbs’, ‘Dear Killer Nannies’, and ‘Imperfect Women’.

What do the Must Watch reviewers make of them?

Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen (Netflix)

Must Watch reviews: Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen

Every week, the Must Watch podcasters review the biggest TV and streaming shows.

‘Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen’ is an eight‑part horror series starring Camila Morrone as a bride‑to‑be who has a growing sense that her wedding is about to be doomed. It is executive-produced by Stranger Things creators the Duffer Brothers.

It is too slow, it takes too long to get to its point”

Scott says that “it is a good watch, but not a Must Watch”.

“They build up the tension very well, so it is the small things such as picking at a nail and it revealing more blood or scenes that you may have seen many times before in many different shows.”

What Scott says is very impressive is “the way that it has been stylised, the way that it looks and the ways that it has been acted”.

Scott adds that “it felt a bit like a mishmash of other things I have seen, done well and put together rather than a really original story that makes me feel like I have to keep going”.

It’s not a Must Watch for Hayley either. Hayley feels that it’s all quite “generic”.

She says that “the characters are generic, the jump scares, the soundtrack, even the bride in a blood‑spattered wedding dress is a trope”.

“I was already bored by the end of the first episode because like Scott said, it is all about building tension but none of it was tense enough for me and there was not enough plot to keep me going.”

Hayley adds that “it crossed the line from tension to boredom”.

“I think it is too slow, it takes too long to get to its point.”

All episodes of ‘Something Very Bad is Going to Happen’ are available to watch on Netflix.

The Burbs (Sky/Now)

The Burbs is not the 1989 film starring Tom Hanks but a US remake starring Jack Whitehall and Keke Palmer. They star as Rob and Samira, a newly married couple who move to a street and live opposite a spooky house with a spooky neighbour.

This could have been a film rather than a TV series"

Scott and Hayley both say it’s not a Must Watch.

Scott says that he is “confused exactly who it is aimed for”.

“I cannot really say anything good about it apart from that it is great to see the Desperate Housewives set being used.”

“Because it is filmed on the Desperate Housewives set, it just makes me want to watch Desperate Housewives because the characters are better.”

Scott believes that this could have been a film rather than a TV series.

Hayley found this show “painfully cringy”.

“It is lighter and less weird than the film was. The original had this kind of Beetlejuice shabbiness to it and this is more focused on one‑liners and mystery.”

Hayley says: “For me it veers way too far into cosiness for me. And you know how I feel about cosiness — I do not like it.”

“Whatever good there is in it comes from [Keke Palmer] and thankfully the husband is more in the background because he is so miscast, it’s distracting.”

Hayley adds that “it does not really make sense to remake this movie in the first place given what little success it had was riding on Tom Hanks and he is not going to be in it”.

All episodes of ‘The Burbs’ are available to watch on Sky and the streaming service NOW with episodes also airing on Sky Comedy.

Dear Killer Nannies (Disney+)

Dear Killer Nannies tells the story of the downfall of Pablo Escobar and his drug cartel through the perspective of his son who was a kid back in the 1990s and 90s.

The acting is superb"

Scott says it’s a good watch, but not a Must Watch, adding that “some bits are really good, some bits are actually quite weak and quite skin deep”.

“I think the fact that you are seeing it through the perspective of his son who is shielded to a certain extent from his father’s activities… I found those themes really rather well done.”

“The acting is superb too.”

Scott thinks that “a lot of the narration is doing quite a bit of the heavy lifting”.

Hayley says that it’s not a Must Watch for her but she does like “the idea of it”.

“Nothing here will surprise you if you have seen Narcos or you know anything about Pablo Escobar, it is a new angle on a story we already know.”

Hayley thinks it is well-made but says that “it just did not go deep enough” for her.

“I want it to be more in the kid’s head.”

But she adds that “the performances are really good, especially the little kid”.

All episodes of ‘Dear Killer Nannies’ are available to watch on Disney+ now.

Imperfect Women (Apple TV)

A psychological thriller starring Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington and Kate Mara who play best friends. Their lives are shattered by a murder so their decade-long bond is tested when an investigation reveals betrayals and shocking truths.

This is mostly a great cast making the best they can of a bad script"

Hayley and Scott both say that it’s not a Must Watch.

Scott says: “You have such little insight into their character and who they really are and then it is like boom, tragedy, everyone is really miserable and everyone is really really, really sad.”

“I kept going and I really did, but it never really took my interest.”

Scott thinks that it has got a great cast, but “it feels like it is falling into the Apple TV trap of spending a lot of money on it… and there is nothing to it”.

He adds that “it is very much an imperfect show”.

Hayley did not like it either.

She believes that this is “the most generic of all the glossy shows about rich women we have seen in the last few years”.

“You never sense that these women actually were friends for 25 years.”

Hayley says: “This is mostly a great cast making the best they can of a bad script. I think it is fine. It is not very deep. It is not very interesting.”

The first four episodes of ‘Imperfect Women’ are available to watch on Apple TV now with a new episode every Wednesday.

A lot of love for 'The Pitt’, which Scott and Hayley gave positive reviews for last week.

Robert got in touch with his thoughts on 'The Pitt', he says...

"I started watching The Pitt over the weekend and I have watched 10 episodes so far.
In many respects it reminds of ER which is the benchmark for all hospital-based TV dramas, closely followed by St. Elsewhere.

"Yes, I will say it’s a must watch as we begin to see the evolution of the characters.

"The character of the young resident Dr. Santos reminds me of Dr. Benton from ER who wants to pursue a surgical career."

James also commented on ‘The Pitt’...

"I was very keen to see what you thought of The Pitt, we got to see six episodes in France over Christmas because they had HBO there already.

"NOW, the biggest compliment I can pay to it, as someone who while a kid spent 13 years in a hospital, who has a lot of trauma now to hospitals and doctors, who can’t watch ANY medical scenes for fear of being triggered, who last year went through the situation with having to let dad go is that, I adored it.

"Even though most episodes I’m hiding behind a pillow until my partner gives me the green light. I love Noah (was a fan of ER) the pace, that it’s not over an hour, the characters….. it’s a beautiful piece of TV."

Here's what Tom thought of 'The Pitt’...

"I loved The Pitt and I am waiting on series 2, episode 2 but I want to say well done to Gerran Howell as he is the stand out star of the show and glad that America got to see the amazing acting from the former star of Young Dracula that aired on CBBC."

Ian got in touch about 'Young Sherlock'

"I'm pretty sure that you may have given this a fairly negative review, but I watched Young Sherlock over the weekend. I rarely binge watch and after three episodes I was ready to leave it alone. It just seemed a bit too 'Guy Ritchie' and trying to be too smart.

"However, I persisted and during the fourth episode it became less 'Guy Ritchie' and the plot became much more interesting to the point I was binge watching and couldn't wait to watch the next episode.

"The development of the characters was interesting, especially Sherlock and Moriarty and the ending gave a glimpse of why the best friends would become arch enemies.

"No spoilers but maybe the end that involved Sherlock's sister was a little too 'easy' to have changed in that way but nevertheless, it was a very enjoyable romp and a lesson to persist in a series sometimes past the first few episodes."
