When you submit a nomination, the BBC will collect personal data about you as the nominator and the person you nominate:
About you, as the nominator, we may collect:
- Name
- Age
- Postcode
- Email address
- Contact telephone number
- Information you provide as part of the nomination
About the person you nominate, we may collect:
- Name
- Age
- Post code
- Email address
- Contact telephone number
- Information about them included in the nomination
Special category data
Given the nature of the awards, the BBC will process special category data about you and about the person you nominate, depending on the information provided during the nomination process. We do not ask you to provide special category data unless it is relevant and necessary for the nomination process.
How do we use your personal data
The BBC will use your personal data to administer and manage the awards process.
This includes:
- Assessing nominations
- Contacting you or the person you nominate where necessary
- Managing shortlisted entries, finalists and award outcomes.

Lawful basis for processing your personal data
The BBC process your personal data on the basis that it is necessary for the performance of its public task. Where we process special category data we rely on substantial public interest. The BBC’s role is to act in the public interest and to serve all audiences with content which informs, educates, and entertains.
Sharing your personal data
The BBC may share personal data with approved third-party service providers who assist with the delivering the awards. These third parties will only process your data on behalf of the BBC and in accordance with its instructions. They will not use your personal data for their own purposes.
We may also share relevant information from nominations with the judging panel for the purpose of assessing shortlisted entries.
We may also share personal data where required or permitted by law.
Retaining your personal data
We retain personal data relating to people who apply but do not win an award for up to nine (9) months after applications close.
We retain records relating to award winners for two (2) years after applications close for auditing and compliance purposes.
Where someone takes part in BBC programming or promotional content, information relating to that contribution will be retained and archived in perpetuity by the BBC.
Where is your personal data is stored?
Your personal data will be stored in the UK and the European Economic Area (EEA).
Your rights
You have rights under UK data protection law, including right to:
- Request a copy of the personal data BBC has about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
- Request deletion of your data, however there are limitations and exceptions to this right which may entitle the BBC to refuse your request.
