The Naked Scientists

Naked Science

During the recent BA Festival of Science, the Naked Scientists joined Jamie Wilkinson on BBC Radio York to conduct some "kitchen science" experiments and answer the questions you've always wanted to ask, such as "is sweat yellow?"

Who are the Naked Scientists?

The Naked Scientists are a group of physicians and researchers from Cambridge University who use radio, live lectures and the internet to strip science down to its bare essentials, and promote it to the general public.

Throughout the recent BA Festival of Science in York, the Naked Scientists shared some of the contents of their huge brains with the listeners of BBC Radio York.

The Naked Scientists (don't worry, they're fully clothed... or so they say) answer questions put to them by BBC Radio York listeners. So if you've ever wondered what colour sweat is, how hypnosis works, what meteorites are made of, or even if wine will make you live longer - the Naked Scientists have the answers.

Monday

Is sweat yellow? What makes us conscious? What's the world most dangerous plant? Monday's experiment brings you some garden science using an office chair.

Tuesday

Do English spiders bite? Will cracking your knuckles cause arthritis? Which chocolate is best for you? Tuesday's experiment brings you some kitchen science using a microwave and a chocolate wrapper.

Wednesday

Why do boys have nipples? Do camels really store water in their humps? How does a digital camera work? Wednesday's experiment brings you some kitchen science using baking powder and a candle.

Thursday

Could a bomb in the eye of the storm help control hurricanes? Plus in Thursday's kitchen science experiment, find out how to "bend it like Beckham" and why the Naked Scientists think that Wayne Rooney is a great physicist!

Friday

Sound is the theme today with birdsong and synthesized voices. Friday's kitchen experiment hopes to discover what an oven shelf sounds like!
