Harrogate and District Junior Under 12s, 03.12.06Little festive cheer among the crowd for top of the table Knaresborough Celtic Under 12s latest league match away to Leeds Maccabi. With a hard wind bringing the temperature right down on a tight , exposed corner of Roundhay Park it looked as if Celtics style of quality, passing football would be restricted by the conditions.
Celtic won the toss and chose to play with wind behind. Tom B blew in down the right side after 5 minutes, chipped the keeper and Celtic took the lead. The next 15 minutes dragged as Celtic camped in the Maccabi half but couldn't score. Two minutes later Maccabi broke free into the Celtic half and forced a penalty. The home team scored and the score was level. Celtic then with the wind on their backs took the lead - Fergus S pounced on a defensive mistake and Sam E stole another to make it 3-1 at the break. Into the teeth of the gale in the second half saw Celtic play their best - Using both wings and learning to beat the Maccabi/Referee offside trap brought success. Kyran S scored his first and second in quick succession to take Celtic to 5-1. Lewis C , having switched to his normal central role stroked one in to take it to 6 before Maccabi caught the Celtic defence with a quickly taken free kick. Finally Lewis M who had played a convincing game in the centre of midfield scored twice to make it 8-2, the last of these being a trademark thunderbolt from the halfway line. The crowd were warmed at the end by another great display. Well done Celtic! Scoop |
