Born 'n' Bred: Glasgow.

First memory: Sitting on the cobbled streets in the slums of the Gorbals in Glasgow and picking out the tar which had been melted by the sun, and then my mother covering me in butter to clean it off.

First record bought: The Beatles - I Feel Fine.

First job: On the tool department of Boyes Store in York.

"I came second to Frank Carson on Opportunity Knocks"

Little known fact about yourself: I came second to Frank Carson on Opportunity Knocks in 1969. Then went back to the winners and runners up programme the following year.

Favourite food and drink: Hot pastrami on rye at the Carnegie Deli in New York. Favourite drink is Whisky - probably too much!

Favourite place in the world: New York.

Favourite place in North Yorkshire: York on a hot summers day.

Any pet hates: Spiders, a big lad shouldn't be - but I am.

What would your desert island luxury be: A record player and my collection of big band music. Mainly drummer Buddy Rich.

Most embarrassing radio moment: How long have you got! Probably walking into an oak tree while doing a live interview.

Best radio moment: Lots of them, mainly with the characters I meet around our county.

Who would be your dream co-presenter: Jordan, she has such lovely big eyes.

If you weren't a broadcaster what would you be: A professional drummer.
