Children who live in deprivation in Norwich are benefiting from a youth club, funded by Children In Need. Community Action Norwich was formed in 1999 and runs several youth clubs and activities for children at the New Hope Christian Centre based in Norwich. Many of the children come from broken homes and struggle to find acceptance and friendship at school. Community Action Norwich believe that positive role models can have an impact on the children's lives. "We have worked for many years with many of the kids that come here and seen the responsibility of them really grow. They do respond to positive influences and they have changed," said children and youth worker Claire Elkins. The organisation also runs an arts club for as many as 30 children, which focuses on dancing, drama and crafts. "I wouldn't know what I would do if I couldn't come here," said six-year-old Louise, who attends the Thursday night club. "Thank you everyone for raising money for Children In Need. If people didn't bother then my youth club wouldn't be open today, so thank you everyone in Norfolk." she added. The £20,000 given through BBC Children in Need last year, enables the charity to employ youth leaders to run the clubs. Project Manager Duane Elkins is overwhelmed with the money received from last years appeal. "We want to say 'Thank you' to BBC Children in Need," he said. "The funding is making a significant difference in the lives of children who grapple with rejection, bullying and isolation. Our desire is to tell them that there is hope for the future," he added.
