Festival Of Love at the library

Libraries across Norfolk are holding a Festival Of Love to mark Valentine's Day. There will be poetry readings, a love bear club for children, card making and romantic writing workshops.


If you're a hopeless romantic and want to brush up on your poetry skills then take part in the Festival Of Love in Norfolk this month. 

Creative Arts East and the Norfolk And Norwich Millennium Library are pairing up for a week of cupid capers which celebrate words of love to mark Valentine's Day.

From 10-19 February, 2005 libraries across Norfolk will be holding poetry readings, a love bear club for children, card making and romantic writing workshops.

Best selling author of My Summer of Love, Helen Cross, will be sharing the secrets of her success and poet Hilary Mellon from the Norwich poetry group will be on hand to provide inspirational words.

Here is a list of events taking place:

Thursday 10 February

Love writing? A writing workshop aimed at anyone wishing to kick-start their fiction writing or help overcome writer's block. Workshop led by novelist Sue Welfare. 2nd Air Division and Memorial Library, 17:30-19:30. Maximum number of 12 participants. Tickets £5 including refreshments. Thursday 10 and Saturday 12 February

It's Now or Never: Elvis & Priscilla are in the building! Lookalikes Elvis and Priscilla will be handing out chocolates in the library. Express section, Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library.

Friday 11 and Saturday 12 February

Lovin' Las Vegas. Internet workshop taster sessions for lifelong learners, new internet users and couples planning weddings. 2nd Air Division and Memorial Library, 11:00 and 15:00 sessions. Reservations suggested. Free. Contact 01603 774747 for more details.

Friday 11 February

Love Bear Club. Drop in for story time with a love theme for toddlers and parents. The Children's Library, Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, 10:30-11:00. Free. Contact The Children's Library on 01603 774750.

Saturday 12 February

Love Hearts for little sweeties. Story time and library poetry workshop aimed at children under 12 and their families. Earlham Children's Library, Norwich, afternoon. Free. Contact 01603 505790 for more information.

Saturday 12 February

Poetry by Proxy. Poet Hilary Mellon and members of the Norwich Poetry group write poems for your beloved while you wait. Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, 10:00-16:00. Valentine card making. Aimed at young children, young people or carers and anyone who wants to make a card for the one they love. Children's Library, The Forum, Norwich, 11:00-15:00. Sessions aim to last 45 minutes. No booking is necessary, but spaces are limited. Free. Contact 01603 774750.

Sunday 13 February

HEY LADIEZ! A Sunday chillout for women and their friends. DJ spinning laid back vibes with poetry, spoken word and music all about love by Norfolk's talented poets and musicians. A selection of books and information from the Out Loud And Proud section of the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library will be available. The Lounge, 13 St Benedict's Street, Norwich, 17:00-20:00. Monday 14 February

Love Tiny Tots. Drop in for story time with a love theme. Tiny tots includes stories and songs aimed at children two years and under. Free. Children's Library, Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, 14:00-14:30. Free. Contact 01603 774750.

Saturday 19 February

Love in the Afternoon. Author Helen Cross talks about her new book and her novel, My Summer of Love (recently adapted for the big screen by director Pawel Pawlikowski).
