Greenfinches have now been added to the red list of endangered birds

The RSPB says there's lots of things we can do to help birds in our gardens or school playgrounds.

You might think one of these ways is to put up a bird feeder, but the UK's largest bird charity is asking people not to do this in the warmer months.

It's because they can become an easy place for diseases to spread between birds which is hurting populations of some species.

The latest Big Garden Birdwatch showed the Greenfinch population has decreased by two million and they're now on the red list of endangered birds.

A disease called Trichomonosis affects their mouth and bird feeders spread the infection between them.

It also affects chaffinches and the RPSB hopes that if fewer people use bird feeders during the summer, it can slow the spread of disease.

Instead the charity recommends using bird feeders during the winter months and offering small amounts of mealworms or fat balls all year around.
