Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's Rein Me In breaks record

With 16 weeks at the top of the UK charts Rein Me In by Sam Fender and Olivia Dean has made history!

That's because it's become the longest-running number one single of all time by a British act.

Canadian singer Bryan Adams' (Everything I Do) I Do It For You also spent 16 weeks at number one back in 1991.

Rein Me In has also broken another record for the most weeks in the UK top 10 for any non-Christmas single.

Sam released the track on his third solo album more than a year ago, before re-releasing it as a remixed duet with Olivia.

He's said that Olivia's input has made the song "all the better" and that watching it break chart records has "been ridiculous".

The pair will no doubt be hoping it can stay in the top spot even longer, to break the record for the longest running number one by any artist.

That record is currently held by American Frankie Laine, whose song I Believe spent 18 weeks at the top of the charts in 1953.

They're not the only artists who have been breaking records recently either - keeping reading to find out who else has been pushing their limits in 2026.

She's been busy recently, having married just a few weeks ago - but back in February Taylor Swift had also set a new record.

She was named IFPI's Official Biggest-Selling Global Artist of the Year for a sixth time.

IFPI which stands for International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, is the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide.

The Global Artist of the Year Award is calculated according to an artist's or group's worldwide sales across streaming, downloads as well as physical copies bought.

Over the last 10 years Taylor has now won the award as many times as all other artists combined, and this is just one of many other records she already holds.

Harry Styles has also become a record breaker - being awarded a Guinness World Record for the longest residency by a musician at Wembley Stadium in a single run.

He performed 12 sold-out shows at the venue beating Coldplay's previous record of 10 nights and Taylor Swift with eight.

Harry kicked off the London leg of his Together, Together tour on 12 June, attended by about 80,000 people.

He had originally only planned to play for six nights but extended the number of dates due to high demand.

He's also recently been awarded a Gold Blue Peter Badge in recognition of his musical career and for inspiring young people.

This year also saw Raye presented with not one, but two Guinness World records as she was recognised for achieving the most Brit Award nominations in a single year AND for the most Brit Awards won in a single year.

She received the seven nominations in 2024 for British Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Pop Act, Best R&B Act, and Best New Artist.

She went on to win six of them, with the Best Pop Act going to Dua Lipa.

Canadian rapper Drake has also had a big year, setting records in both the UK and US when it comes to his albums.

In the UK he became the first artist to have three albums in the top 10, with Iceman at number one, Maid of Honour ranking sixth, and Habiti in at number seven

Meanwhile stateside he did even better, becoming the first artist in the history of the US Billboard charts to have his albums in the top three positions at the same time.

Drake also set a new Spotify streaming record for 2026 with Iceman, after getting 140.2 million streams in the first 24 hours after its release.
