A jobs fair will be held in January to help 650 fish processors who lost their posts at Young's Seafood in Fraserburgh.

It was announced in July that the plant was to close after the loss of a £100m contract to supply salmon to supermarket chain Sainsbury's.

However, the owners then decided to keep it open - along with a smokehouse in Grantown on Spey - saving 250 jobs.

A Scottish government-led taskforce has so far failed to find it any new work.

Scottish Business Minister Fergus Ewing - who met workforce representatives at Young's on Monday morning - said he was hopeful new contracts could be secured.

The Fraserburgh plant has become a much-reduced operation focusing on hot and cold smoked ready-to-eat products.
