Storm Austen caused major disruption throughout the day. Trains have been cancelled, trees felled, buildings damaged and homes left without power.
The storm made landfall in south-west England overnight and tracked eastwards throughout the day.
Jersey saw gusts of up to 84mph (135km/h) while in Brighton, on the south coast, part of the iconic West Pier - an abandoned structure that first opened in 1866 - collapsed into the sea.
National Grid confirmed this afternoon it had restored power to more than 60,000 homes who were left without due to the storm. However, there are thousands still affected by power cuts.
Tonight, yellow rain warnings are in place for parts of southern Scotland until 23:59 BST. Yellow wind warnings for large swathes of south-east England, North West England, Wales and the West Midlands will end at 21:00.
Austen - the first named storm of the season - is easing, but a second storm is brewing.
After a brief respite from the heavy rain and winds, Storm Boelo will bring heavy and persistent rain spreading across the country throughout Saturday.
Boelo is also forecast to bring more strong winds across the country over the weekend. During the days, a yellow wind warning will be in place for vast swathes of Scotland, northern England and Northern Ireland. This will become an amber warning in Scotland from 21:00 on Saturday.
