With investigation work continuing, Nottinghamshire Police is still keen to hear from anyone who saw what happened.

Det Ch Insp Ruby Burrow said: “We know five people were injured but we’d still like to hear from anyone else involved.

“Any witnesses who were in Arnold Market Place, or the wider town centre area around this time, should also get in touch.

“We'd appeal to anyone with relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage to speak to an officer."

Nottinghamshire Police said an altercation had taken place in the town centre a short while before the incident.

Det Ch Insp Ruby Barrow said: "Although there is no wider risk to the public, this was a serious incident which will have caused concern in the community.

“We believe an argument has taken place in Arnold town centre and this has resulted in a car being driven at a group of people."

We've just had a further update from Nottinghamshire Police.

The force said in addition to the man who suffered life-threatening injuries, four other men suffered less serious injuries.

It added counter-terrorism police were not involved in the investigation and officers were still working to track down an identified suspect, a white man.

Michael Payne, MP for Gedling, confirmed the incident was not suspected to be terror-related and added there was not currently any concern about a wider risk to the public.

Speaking to the BBC at the scene, he added: “We’re a tight-knit community in Arnold.

“This has been my home my entire life. I live in Arnold and we’ll respond in the usual way as a community and will support the police in the important work they’re doing.

“My best wishes go to the individuals who’ve been hurt in the incident and I seriously hope that the said individual who’s got life-threatening injuries makes a recovery. My thoughts are with them and their family.”

Payne attended the scene alongside Gedling Borough Council leader John Clarke.

Clarke has called for barriers along the road, adding that the borough council had called for the road to be blocked off to traffic.

He added: “There need to be barriers, there needs to be prevention, and we need to look at it seriously to make people feel safe, to make the businesses stay here so they’ll prosper.”

While police have shared some information on the incident, there are still several things we have yet to find out. These include:

• What happened in the period leading up to the crash
• How many people were struck by the car
• What injuries have been sustained by the other victims
• How long the cordon will be in place for

A number of police cordons remain in place across Arnold town centre as investigation work takes place.

Nottinghamshire Police said they are expected to be in place for some time.

Michael Payne, Labour MP for Gedling, said he had been in close contact with police about the incident.

He said: "I would urge everyone not to speculate further on the circumstances surrounding this incident while this important police work continues.

"I have sought reassurances from Nottinghamshire Police regarding ongoing community safety in and around Arnold, and I will continue to liaise closely with police colleagues throughout the weekend.

"I know this will be upsetting and worrying news for many of us who call Arnold home.

"I will endeavour to keep the local community informed and updated as the investigation and police work progresses."

• Police were called to Market Place, Arnold, at about 01:10 BST on Saturday following reports a car had crashed into multiple pedestrians.
• One person has suffered life-threatening injuries.

Carolynne Watson said she was "really shocked" when she visited Arnold on Saturday morning and saw the scene.

She added: "I really hope that everyone who has been injured is OK and my thoughts are with them. It’s really quite shocking."

Arnold is a town based in the Gedling borough of Nottinghamshire. It lies about three miles north of Nottingham city centre.

One of the most well-known landmarks in the area is the former Home Brewery building, in nearby Daybrook.

The brewery was founded in 1875 and the building, which dates from 1936 became famous for its gated frontage.

The town was also a centre for the knitting industry, and was the site for the first major documented incident of the Luddite movement in 1811, when a group of framework knitters destroyed stocking frames.

A stream of shoppers were now being turned away from the cordon area, with police speaking to people at the scene.

There is an atmosphere of concern for those people who were injured, and an expectation that the town will be cordoned off for much of the day.

A spokesperson for Gedling Borough Council, which is headquartered in Arnold, said it was aware of the incident.

They added: "Our thoughts are with everyone affected.

"We are working closely with Nottinghamshire Police as inquiries continue.

"Police have confirmed there is currently no indication of any ongoing threat to the wider public. Please be advised to stay away from the area while police investigations continue."

Police said a red Vauxhall Astra crashed into a number of pedestrians in Nottinghamshire.

Images taken from the scene show a red car with significant damage to its bonnet.

The cordon stretches across Market Place, where police were called to in the early hours of Saturday.

Police at the scene told BBC News there was no indication to suggest the crash was terror-related.

“Officers will remain at the scene today to carry out further inquiries, speak to local people and offer reassurance.

“It is also important anyone with information, or relevant dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage, gets in touch without delay.”

Police have cordoned off the area while investigations take place.

Market Place is closed as well as the junctions from Gedling Road to Derby Street, Hallams Lane and Central Avenue.

Police said the closures were expected to remain in place "for some time" and advised people to avoid the area.

Public transport has also been affected, with Nottingham City Transport confirming its Lime 59 service will not be serving certain stops while the roads are closed.
