Fenton John has signed a two-year contract extension at Gateshead, which will keep the midfielder at the National League club until 2028.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for The Heed last season, making 47 appearances in all competitions.

John joined Gateshead in 2024 and spent loan spells with Morpeth Town and Stockton Town before becoming a first-team regular for Gateshead last season.

Gateshead are currently without a manager after Rob Elliot left the role following a successful stint in charge where he helped the club avoid relegation.

He was appointed as Carlisle boss the day after his Gateshead departure was announced.
