A man's body has been found in a river, police have said.

Officers were called to the River Freshney in Grimsby near to the footpath connecting Corporation Road and Fisherman's Wharf at around 11:30 BST on Tuesday.

Det Insp Darren Critten said the "death is being treated as unexplained".

"At this time, we are in the very early stages of our investigation, and we are conducting extensive lines of enquiries to identify the man and further understand the exact circumstances leading up to his death," he added.

"A scene guard remains in place whilst enquiries continue, and those in the area can expect to see an increased police presence.

"If anyone has any concerns at all, I encourage them to please come and speak to our officers."
