Ex-respite centre may become supported living flats
GoogleA charity hopes to redevelop a former residential respite centre in Scunthorpe into supported living accommodation.
Specialist provider Foresight is seeking permission to create 27 flats at the former Cygnets and The Hollies site on Normanby Road.
The charity supports people with disabilities in North East Lincolnshire, with chief executive Paul Silvester calling the project "a great opportunity" to provide a new service in the area.
A public consultation on the planning application for the location, which has been unused for several years, is due to end on 18 June, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Cygnets was a residential respite centre for children before it moved to the £6m Tree Tops centre. The Hollies was an NHS treatment centre with respite care.
The application involves no extensions to the buildings, with the plan aiming to provide eight one bedroom flats at Cygnets and 17 at The Hollies.
It would provide accommodation for adults with disabilities to help them live independently, with a garage block set to be converted into two flats and a manager's office.
Silvester said the authority had identified over 50 people who would be eligible for the accommodation.
"If the demand was to exceed what we're doing, there's grounds to expand it," he added.
