Film screening celebrates Portuguese culture
Project LusoA film screening helped celebrate Portuguese culture in Jersey.
It was part of Film Luso, which is a free programme of Portuguese short films that were displayed at Romeril's Car Park on Wednesday.
The 2021 Jersey census reported there were about 8,000 Jersey residents born in Portugal or Madeira, and 9,700 people identifying as ethnically Portuguese.
Sasha Gibb led the project and said: "Film Luso is all about celebrating, showcasing and sharing some of this wonderful Portuguese culture."
Gibb said: "I think what is also important is for the non-Portuguese communities to be reminded or educated on just how lucky we are to have Portuguese culture in our community."
She added: "It doesn't matter what language you speak, it's about people and that's what I'm most excited about."
Gibb is also leading Project Luso, which aims to highlight Portuguese culture in Jersey and it is planning to mark Portugal Day with a special celebration with details still to be confirmed.
