Now her mother has joined a campaign to stamp out gun crime.
Iffat Rizvi has joined parents who have lost children to gun and knife crime to launch the Don’t Trigger 2007 campaign. They want to drive home the message that guns not only destroy the victim, but that the victims' families lives are also destroyed for ever. "The pain, the pain, it gets worse as time goes on it doesn't get better. I miss her all the time," cries Iffat. The campaign formed by South London based Urban Concept two years ago, uses music as a means of getting through to young people who are involved in gangs. ![]() Sabina Rizvi “For me taking part in this campaign is to reach out to those young people and, I do believe if Sabina was here she would say yes mum, they understand through music”, says Iffat. The first campaign saw local artists joining parents of children who've lost their lives through guns and knife releasing two anti-gun songs. Don't Trigger 2007This year's campaign will involve a Hip Hop music opera created to try to keep teenagers away from a life of violent crime. The 50-minute film uses music videos, documentary film footage and contributions from victims families. Many high-profile artists from across the music industry including Jocelyn Brown, Hill Street Soul and many from the reggae fraternity - Maxi Priest, Peter Hunningale and, Don Campbell have also been involved. For Iffat, joining others who can understand her pain which she says never goes away is one way of trying to heal.
