TV soap operas are set in locations ranging from London to Australia. So far the East Midlands has missed out on being the setting for these shows which attract millions of viewers. But now the BBC has helped to create a brand new programme set in Leicester. The show, called Wavelengths, is filmed at BBC Radio Leicester in St Nicholas Place and follows the fortunes of a team of young reporters. All of the actors are drama students from Leicester Grammar School. Watch an exclusive clip of Wavelengths: Scripts have been written by graduates from De Montfort University's MA course in television screen writing. The two-minute long episodes will be screened online weekly on bbc.co.uk/leicester from 03 March. Leicester Grammar School drama teacher Annette Griffin says the actors, who are aged from 14-18, have benefited from the project. She said: "It's great for them to do some acting that's filmed. "It's also an opportunity to take part in something more realistic than the school play". |
