Performance craft, paintings made with eggs and a ghostly army of forgotten figurines are all part of a new art show at Leeds College of Art. Participating artists in the show - called 'Ten' - are among the cream of up-and-coming contemporary art talent from the college. The group of artists came together as a group of ten friends (sadly one of their number died earlier this year) and the exhibition is an exposé for the nine remaining artists. 'Ten' is completed by a collaborative work. They are all part-time fine art students who balance study with work and families. Organisers believe they've thrown away the rule book for this show that aims to put their methods and materials under scrutiny. ![]() Jenny Parkin's 'History Chairs' Highlights include Julie Bowland's unsettling reimagining of a Ladybird fairytale, lights and lasers from Venice Gent, charity shop finds remade in lurid pastel technicolour by Jenny Parkin and Rebecca Norman's 'performance craft' - as created on the train and in the doctor's waiting room. Also showcased are egg white tempura committed to canvas by Alison Button, 'Images from the Dark Side' from Ken Fackrell, Chris Limb's experimental works with iron filings and milk, collages created from paintings by Yesim Tiryaki Calvert and Catharine Hilton's exploration of absence with dead birds! Alison Button, the show's co-ordinator, said: "We've made it our business to be bold and different. We haven't just politely pushed boundaries, we're gleefully shoving them - or ignoring them all together. We've all been back to the drawing board, literally and metaphorically, to really pull apart what we do, and how we do it. The results are pretty startling." 'Ten' runs at Mosaic Bar, Leeds College of Art, Blenheim Walk, LS2 from Friday 3 July until Friday 31 July 2009.
